Prevention In Practice

Explore the Science and application of prevention

The Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council’s (GSSAC) Prevention Center is dedicated to promoting quality prevention programs throughout Eastern Washington.  To help reach this goal, the Prevention Center is proud to be offering the Prevention In Practice training.  This training explores the research behind prevention and how to apply these findings with practical prevention strategies for parents, teachers and others.

Learn specific factors that put children at risk to develop problems with
drugs, violence etc. as well as ways to protect them

Learn to incorporate these models into the family, school, or prevention
program to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors

A great training for teachers, parents, or youth leaders

By analyzing the Risk/Protective Factor and Developmental Assets models, participants learn specific factors that put children at risk to develop problems with drugs, violence or other problem behaviors as well as ways to protect them.  The training then explores how these models can be incorporated into their classroom, family, organization, or group to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors.
