Media Literacy

Television, movies, and other forms of media have a powerful influence on youth and our culture as a whole.  This influence includes attitudes and behaviors regarding drug use and violence.  Therefore, GSSAC’s Prevention Center works to promote critical viewing skills among youth and to raise awareness of the effects of media among parents as well as the community.  In order to accomplish this task, GSSAC offers a training of facilitators.  This training teaches the basics of media literacy and how to implement a program to reduce the negative influences of the media, build upon the positives and create critical viewing skills.

Training Highlights:

  • Training of facilitators

  • No charge

  • Explore the subconscious impact of media on youth development

  • Learn strategies to promote critical viewing skills

  • Learn strategies to use media literacy as a prevention tool

  • Conducted in a 2-5 hour timeframe

  • Able to be adjusted for specific group needs
